Support Dogstar Theatre

Dogstar Theatre is a European touring theatre company rooted in the Highlands. For over 25 years, Dogstar has been creating award-winning theatre, bringing vital stories to remote village halls, national stages and international audiences. Our work is rooted in the languages, landscapes and lived experiences of the Highlands and Islands, connecting local narratives to global themes including migration, belonging, conflict, climate and community.

We also champion the next generation of theatre-makers from the Highlands and Islands, offering mentoring, script development, creative learning and real pathways into professional work. In a region with fewer opportunities, Dogstar is a vital engine for new voices and new stories to take flight.

If you believe in bold theatre, rural creativity and the power of Highland stories, please consider supporting Dogstar Theatre Company.

Why Your Support Matters

Scotland’s cultural landscape is uneven. While the Central Belt is rich in venues and investment, the vast Highlands and Islands – a third of Scotland’s landmass – remains one of the country’s most under-served regions for live theatre.

Many communities here rely on village halls, where audiences of 40–70 will gather for the rare chance to see professional work. For these rural communities, theatre isn’t an everyday experience – it’s an occasional, fragile and deeply cherished one.

“This is the only live theatre we’ll see this year.” – Audience member, Lochinver Village Hall

At the same time, our region is facing a quiet loss of creative talent. Nearly half of young people aged 16–29 expect to leave the Highlands within five years, often because opportunities – especially in the arts – are limited or simply out of reach. Dogstar exists to help change that: we bring high-quality theatre to rural communities, and create real pathways for emerging artists to build their lives and careers here in the Highlands and Islands.

Your support helps us to:

  • Bring internationally acclaimed, original theatre to rural and remote communities where access to the arts is limited
  • Commission and develop new writing from across the Highlands and Islands
  • Collaborate internationally, including work with Ukrainian, Scandinavian and global partners
  • Keep ticket prices accessible so more people can experience live theatre
  • Create opportunities for emerging artists and freelancers to build careers where they live

Even small donations make a real difference to who we can reach and what we can create.
